Viivi Nieminen
I Filled My Hand with Sand and Called It Gold
7.10.–30.10.2016
Photographic Centre Peri at Turku
The work I Filled My Hand with Sand and Called It Gold is based on the Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa’s wooden chest, from which 27 543 text strips and a posthumously collected fictional prosaic work, The Book of Disquiet, was found after his death.
Viivi Nieminen (1980) is a photographic artist from Helsinki, mainly working with analog photography, text and installation. She is interested in the moulding nature of memory and the subjectivity of how reality is experienced.
For Viivi Artproof produced the frames and mounted the prints. Viivi made the C-prints herself.
Exhibition photos were made by Patrick Gustavson.
