Berlin-based Finnish photographer Markus Henttonen’s Silent Night was inspired by his trip to Los Angeles in 2011. There, he was intrigued by the city’s environment and atmosphere and decided to capture its Christmas spirit in residential areas. The photographs present suburban houses lit with bright Christmas lights, revealing some of the pecularities of winter in LA, inclusive of palm trees and green lawns. Predominately absent of people, with only an occasional silhouette through curtains or the lit taillights of a car, the images reveal something of the culture behind these manicured scenes while offering only a hint of the people who made them.
